This year fund drive donations will be
looking at updating two computers and our server. We save photos
and research items digitally to a server but, due to storage
availability the computer and server need to be replaced . Plans
are to, also, place census records, birth records, marriage,
birth and death indexes on a separate computer that researchers
would be able to access in the research room.
Another much needed items is additional
lighting. Due to of lack of track lighting in the gallery the
exhibits are not always lit as well as they could be. We would
like to purchase additional track lightings making it
easier to read signage and examine exhibits. These track lights
will have special filters to protect the artifacts from
light damage.
The response is always
gratifying. Your historical society is always striving to
improve your experience when researching or visiting. Your donations to the
Roseau County Historical Society fund drive helps us to do these things.
In 2011, we had three major exhibits. The main exhibit
was a Smithsonian Traveling Exhibit New Harmonies:
Celebrating American Roots Music. This is the third
time Roseau County Historical Society has had the honor of being
a site host for a Smithsonian Traveling Exhibit. We also
partnered with the Roseau Public Library for a North Dakota Museum of Art Exhibit titled Marking the Land
a photo exhibit by photographer John Dow.
In March we celebrated Women's
History Month by honoring a group of women from around the
county with the One Woman 2011
and Women in Government
programs and exhibits.
We will again celebrate Women in History starting with a ribbon cutting March
4 were we
will honor the women who have made a difference in their
townships and communities. The townships and cities were asked
to select a woman has lived within the community that deserves
recognition for their services within the area.
