2012 marks 85 years since the Roseau
County Historical Society was organized in April 1927. The intent was
to collect, preserve and disseminate the history of Roseau County,
Minnesota. The Historical Society is a 501(c)3 nonprofit educational
organization. The organization displays artifacts from the present and
the past that represent the history of the county as well as hosts
traveling exhibits at the museum. The Historical Society also has an
extensive
research center.
The Roseau County Historical Society is
funded by a county allocation, memberships, donations, research, and an
annual fund drive.
Membership entitles you to many things and you become a vital part
of the society's success.
All military families are incited to
visit the museum and research center free of charge this summer. Come in
and do family history, you will be amazed at what you will discover!
The historical society
is collecting information about county music right now. We are seeking
information on any musicians or bands that have played in the county, as
well as any places dances or music has been played, past and present,
please contact the museum at 218-463-1918.
This will be the fourth year that we hold events during
Women’s History Month in March. Once again we will be honoring the women
who have made a difference in their community during the “2012 One
Woman” program at 12 pm on Sunday, March 4th in the Roseau
City Center. This is a public event and you are invited to attend and
congratulate these special women from our county. If your township does
not have a representative, please give your township supervisors a
nominee. There are so many wonderful women who do so much for their
community in silent ways, this is your opportunity to honor them!
The 2012 One Women are
Eva Gregerson-Badger, Veronica Novacek-Barto,
Sylvia Lisell-Falun, Dianne Churchill-Greenbush, Rose Strandlund-Jadis,
Esther Sandstrom-Malung, Elvera Kvarnlov-Moranville, Irene Olson-Roseau,
Jeanette Erickson-Ross, Sylvia Kukowski-Skagen, Addie Streiff-Unorganized,
and Sunny Wilmer-Warroad.
Present exhibits include
New Harmonies: Music in
Roseau County, One Woman, immigration, Marvin Windows military,
local Ojibwa, natural history, including the P.O. Fryklund egg
collection.
